Sunny's＠BaytownとOretachi.jpの共同企画で、ベイタウンの皆様に英語力をアップして頂こうと、このコーナーをつくりました。頻繁に更新いたししますので是非、時々ご覧になってみてください。 |

ベイタウンで地域貢献とボランティアを楽しくやらせて頂いて居ります。
地域貢献とボランティアは日本以上に英語圏では重視されている様です。
米国の学校の中には、入学願書の中にそれを記載する場所があるのを見受けます。政治家も「家族」の重要さと共に「地域貢献とボランティア」は無くてはならない「経歴」ですね。 |

I have enjoyed getting involved with the community and doing volunteer
work in Baytown.

桜はcherry blossoms。これは頻繁に使えます。cherryだけでは食べるほうですからご注意を。両方の文は殆ど同じ単語を使ってますね。cherry blossoms, remind us of〜, depend on〜。
日本の文化そして言葉が如何に深く季節の草花に関わっているか英語を学習しているうちに皆様も痛感されると思います。 |

|
「日本では春には桜、と決まってますが他の国ではどうなんでしょうか？」
「国によって違うんでしょうが日本では季節が草花を連想させますよね。」 |

英訳例：
“Cherry blossoms always remind us of spring in Japan.
Does this happen in other countries?”
|
|
|
|
“I suppose it depends on a country. Different seasons remind us of particular
flowers in Japan such as cherry blossoms in spring.” |

|

英訳例（２）：
“It always reminds me of cherry blossoms when spring has
come. But does the same go to other countries?”
|
|
|
|
“Yes. Each season reminds us of some different flowers blossoming in Japan. I
think this depends on where you live.” |

“My daughter passed the entrance exam to the University
she wanted to go to.”

What is she majoring in?” |
|
|
|
「娘さんが大学に合格されたとお聞きしました。本当におめでとう御座います」
「はい、有難う御座います。私どもも嬉しいです。」
「学部はどちらですか」 |

英訳例（２）：
“Congratulations!
I have heard your daughter passed that tough entrance exam to
the University that she wanted to go to.”

“What course is she taking?”
「何学部ですか」「専攻は？」というのは「 What is she majoring in? 」、「 What is her major?」 のように”major”という単語を使います。この一つの単語を覚えていると受験シーズンの会話には大変役立ちますよ。 |

気候が暖かくなって来ました。春ももう直ぐ。桜の花が待ち遠しいですね。
寒いのはもう終わりにして欲しいですね。 |

英訳例（１）：
It is getting warm. Spring is just around the corner. I am looking forward
to seeing cherry blossoms. We’ve had enough of the cold weather. |

英訳例（２）：
Soon this cold winter will finish and then spring will come. I enjoy the
cherry blossoms in spring. It is high time we had some warm weather.
「Enough is enough. I had enough.」 は「もう嫌になった」「もうこれで十分、こりごりだ」で映画の会話などにはつきものですね。よく聞くという事は日頃我々はそういう事で文句を言っているからに違いありません！ |

オーストラリアと日本の気候は逆ですよね。ということはあちらは今は夏。
太陽の元でサーフィンをしたり、泳いだり、ゴルフをしてるんでしょうね。
日本の冬もそんな気候だったら良かったのにな〜！ |

英訳例：
I know that the weather in Australia is completely opposite to ours. It
must be -- the middle summer there now! They must be surfing, swimming
and playing golf under the sun.
「あちらは今は夏」は日本語では体言止、良く使う手法ですね。これを英語にすると It must be〜。訳は、何を言いたいかをはっきりさせてこそピタリとはまった訳が出来ます。英語の学習には日本語と英語の両方が理解出来る事が必要なんですね。日本語が出来ない外人の教師でも「外人に習えば英語が上手になる」というのは必ずしも正しくないと思う所以です。 |

（１５） 第９回 和→英
|
三寒四温を辞書で見ると「三日ほど寒い日が続いた後に四日ほど暖かい日が続くこと。冬季に見られる気候」と書いてありました。三寒四温ももう直ぐでしょうね。 |
|
|
|
英訳例：
When I looked up in my dictionary for San-kan Shi-on, it said, “three cold
days followed by four warm in winter.” I’m sure this cycle of days is just
around the corner. |
|
|
|
ちょっとだけランクアップした言い方：
I just hope that we will soon start to have San-kan Shi-on, which means “three cold days followed by four warm in winter.” I looked it up in the dictionary.
日本語では「寒い日が続いた後に暖かい日が続く」 順番は寒い日、次に暖かい日です。ご覧の通り英語でも順番は同じですね。「寒い日 followed by 暖かい日」
「followed by」を使うと「英語は後ろから訳して」ではなく魔法のように日本語と同じ語順になるのが面白いでしょう。 |

|
今年の冬は暖冬のようです。世界中の気候が不順なのかも知れません。兎に角早く暖かくなって欲しいですね。 |
|
|
|
英訳例：
This year it feels warm for this time of the winter season.
I suspect that weather has been unusual all over the world.
At any rate I hope it will turn to be warm soon. |

|
ちょっとだけランクアップした言い方：
It is warm for this time of the year now.
The weather has been volatile over the globe. That fact aside, I am looking forward to warm days as soon as possible.
「it feels〜」、「 it will turn to be〜」、「 it is warm」など気候関連は「 it〜」が簡単便利。
「as soon as possible」は良く活用されますね。これは会話でもメールでも「ASAP」と言うこともあります。便利でしょう！？ |

|
ワンちゃんと一緒に海岸を散歩できるというのが、ベイタウンに越して来て住もうと思った理由の一つです。 |
|
|
|
英訳例：
One of the major reasons that I decided to move to Baytown was the fact
that I thought it would make all of us happy to take a walk with our dog
on the beach here. |
|
|
|
ワンランク上の言い方：
I expected Baytown to be a very livable place. I was looking forward to strolling around on the beach with our dog. That was one of the important reasons for us to move to Baytown.
「ベイタウンに越して来る」は、簡単に「move to Baytown」です。「move Baytown」とするとベイタウンという街全体を他の場所に移すことになってしまうのでご注意あれ。 |

|
ワンちゃんと散歩している人を見ると判る。ワンちゃんも色々な個性があるけど、飼い主も明るい人も、むっつりしてる人も千差万別なんだなあ。 |
|
|
|
英訳例：
You know it when you walk your dog that each dog has a different character.
Owners of the dogs have an infinite variety of personalities as well; some are nice and cheerful but some others are sulky and difficult
to talk to. |
|
|
|
ワンランク上の言い方：
It is interesting to notice when you take your dog for a walk that each
dog passing by shows a different personality. The owners of the dogs possess
an even greater spectrum of characters. Some are enjoyable to talk to. Some others are so sullen that it is difficult
to communicate.
このような「an infinite variety of personalities」や「 a greater spectrum of characters」という表現を少しずつ言えるように表現の幅や深みを持てれば、上級ですね。 |

（１１） 第７回 和→英
|
ベイタウンにはワンちゃんを飼っている方が増えているのに、ドッグカフェがないんだよね。あったら良いのに。
|
|
|
|
英訳例：
Wouldn't it be perfect if we had a dog cafe in Baytown
especially because the dog population is rising? |
|
|
|
ワンランク上の言い方：
With the population of dogs on the rise in
Baytown, I wonder why they don’t have coffee shops and restaurants specially
designated for our dogs. I’m sure people would appreciate it if there were
some.
ベイタウンに「ONE THE GO」というお店がありますね。英語で「on the go」は「very active」という意味です。「on the
rise」も一緒に覚えましょう、「増えている」という意味ですね。 |
